Rare Blackfeet ceremonial buffalo skull museum deacession

Description

This buffalo skull measures approximately 30 in in length from the nose to the tip of the horns and 26 in in width. The teeth remain intact. The blue dots on the skull test as being indigo a trade dye which was available to the southwest and the plains Indians during the mid 19th century. The skull has a yellowish patina and originated from a Montana estate and originally from the Blackfeet reservation in the upper Midwest. The blue dots are believed to represent the Stars  and or the migration of the Buffalo into an after world as they were stripped from the plains during the mid 19th century. The horns can be slipped off the bone core and are original to the skull. Museum deacession documentation.
